The Alligator river story is a tale of love and the poor attempts to fulfill love.In the story are a group of people that all played a part in guiding this love of a man and women. I will rate the character's in terms of my respect for each person, one being the highest and five being the least amount of respect.
I will start with whom I think is the worst character and didn't respect the traditions of what true love is, Abigail. Abigail is a poor excuse for a lover. When someone is truly in love, not only will they wait for a life time to be with there lover, She actually got convinced that sleeping with another man would help her cause, bloody whore. I can agree waiting for that boast of life that your lover can bring will make the clock seem motionless but a fifty mile drive or missing work doesn't even begin to equal cheating on your lover for a short cut in time. If Abigail was a good women she would have either roughed out the drive or waited for time when her and Gregory could spend there love together the right way. She was arrogate enough to sleep with another man to be with Gregory, I would give this women the big boot in her piss poor attempt in how to be her lover and no respect for the value of true love. Abigail gets a 5.
The second to last character of respect would have to be Gregory. If he knew they where in love then he should have made a better attempt to be with Abigail. Instead, he would make her go to trifling extremes to be with him. In the traditions of love, Gregory seems like he must not want it that bad. I do understand not wanting to be with her after her fling with the boatman Sindbad but, If he really loved this women he should grow some testicular fortitude and cross the river. His brave swim would have won her over like a knight's tale. Alligators though massive in size don't attack grown men out of hunger unless its provoked by food. A little knowledge and some balls would have saved his relationship, he would have even looked like more of a man. I give Gregory a 4 for not trying as hard a his women and being scared to fulfill his heart.
The next worst character of respect would be Slug. Even if he did love Abigail enough to beat the crap out of Gregory for his lack of care, It was not his love to fight. Slug reminds me of the kid in school who used to fight other people's battles because he has no other way of getting attention. Like a lost boy trying to prove his manhood, Slug would have made a better lover for Abigail. His beating of Gregory does get him some respect because at least he will fight for Abigail's cause. He should have been in Gregory's shoes and used that same determination to see his women. I give Slug a 3 in respect for at least trying to be a man.
Getting better on my scale of respect is Sinbad. Though Sinbad seems like a chauvinistic man trying to get laid, he did nothing wrong in the scents of love. People will say he's bad for sleeping with Abigail knowing she wants to be with Gregory but the fact is he was testing her love,(which was apparently not strong at all).Gregory is just like any other single man out in the world, he will try his best to find some quick love if the opportunity arises.Gregory has done nothing wrong except for trying a women's love for another man. These tests of love happen every day if your in a good relationship because you radiate confidence and draw single people in who want that love. Sinbad Gets a 2 on the scale for at least showing Abigail's flaws to Gregory.
Last on the list and the character that gets the most respect is Ivan. Ivan At least saw that it's not up to him to save Gregory and Abigail's love, it is up to them to determine how bad they want to be with each other. Ivan stayed out of the firing line and left it up to the couple to determine there fate. It was not Ivan's job to insure the lovers get to be with each other it is there own. Ivan gets a one for the most respect for the knowledge to stay out of other people's business.I agree he could have helped but it was not his duty or his love to fight.
Of all the characters Abigail is the worst followed shortly by Gregory for there poor attempt to keep a relationship. Fifty miles and a river of alligators will not stop true love. There have been world wars and much greater disasters that other people fought through to be with the person they love. The alligator river story was just a small test of love which the couple failed miserably.

Michael's metaphysical assumtions
The idea that somthing can come from nothing is irrational. As far back as history can be told, people have always had a concept of a greater power. Things simply don't appear out of thin air. Even scientist and religion agree that there is a reason for everything. Metaphysics are an explaination for things we don'tunderstand and our minds have not grasp.
Most philosophers discribe metaphysics as the nature of reality. No mattter what religioin you practice there is a supreme power with some set of principals regarding the laws of nature. I'm not big on being a follower but when a concept has that much powe from so many indivduals you can't help but to be persuaded into reality. The metaphysical world can offer anwsers for the things our technological minds have not understood. The universe around us is ever changing and is so large and diverse that it out wieghts the current capacity of our brain. Out of metaphysics a purpose arises, even if it is only to figure out the W's( who, what, when, where, and why?) of our lives.
When humans began to distinguish the difference between good and evil we began to become metaphysic beings. Even the most brilliant scientist can only prove a theory so far before hitting a mental barrior. Albert Einstein was one of the most brilliant scientist of our time and still he believed in a higher power or God. Socrates( A philosopher) once made a formula to believing in God. If you don't believe in any kind of metaphysics then you have gained nor lost anything but if you do have a belief you'll have a healthier society regardless if there is a reward in the afterlife. Basically, you have everything to gain and nothing to loss.
Metaphysics has built purpose for learning not only in the world around us but has helped us learn more than we thought possible, pushing the bounderies of human knowledge. Learning the nature of the world is important for survival and key to bettering life. Metaphysics are weak in proof but strong in faith. The metaphysical world helps comfort us in our unknowing and can help us start to grasp the ideas that seem impossible. With the modern science mixed with metaphysics there is no bound for the human mind.

Bush's brain wash
Ihttp://litmuse.net/prompt_mailer2
In my recent reading of Norman Mailer's book "Why are We at War",I agree that Bush's persuit towards a single global economy will affect everyone foreign and local. Though the Bush campainge does'nt seem to have the capibilty nor support to globalize american idealogy, never underestimate stupidity at its finest. Bush's scare tactics have many people believing america is on the prink of being overran by a terrorist attack. Mailer's book also called out the false patroitism set forth by Bush's good and evil speech post-911 saying, " Free floating patriotism seemed like a direct measure of our free floating anxiety"(pg. 15) Bush has found many ways to tactfully play the public into persuation, using our fears of losing our economy to over take those of other countries. Bush has even used a system of colors to indicate danger threats of terrorist in our country, which is basically a propaganda that keeps everyday citizens in fear, effecting the ways we live in our community.
Another tactic Mailer found was something that the Bush administration uses to effect the thoughts of local citizens, by using the word evil to avoid the real questions on his campainge. Mailer say's "One of Bush's worst faults in rhetoric was to use the word evil as if were a button he could push to increase power.Bush uses the evil button as a narcotic for the part of the american public that feels the most distressed. He believes this country is the only hope for the world. He also fears that the country is rapidly growing more dissolute, and the only solution may be feel mighty, and near holy words- the only solution may be to strive for world empire".(pg 51) Mailer put to words what I thought was a brain wash on the Bush campaign. Bush uses many different approaches on how to affect the thinking of local patirotism. Hopefully people will start paying more attention to how our politics are working, before we are fooled into another world war.
Bush's policies have effected everyone from the local to a global level. The fact that he got elected twice shows our inability to watch our hard earned tax dollars be tossed around like monopoly money. Bush also affects the lives of local citizens that have to send their sons off to war to fight for somthing they may not even blieve in. It is the people that suffer for capital gain. The Bush brain wash will not work if citizens actually start taking interest who we put in power. It would be a shame to loss the diversity of the world to a stubborn cowboy.

Enter Darth Bush
http://litmuse.net/prompt_mailer:
Like a bad scene out of "Star Wars," the bush administration is on a global take over. I agree with Norman Mailer's novel "Why are we at War?", "capitalism does have this tendancy to take over large parts of the economies of other countries. Often we are the next thing to cultral barbarians. We don't always pay attention to what we are trampling. What intensifies the anger is how often we are succeful in these commercial invasions"(pg.24). Darth President Bush "as I like to refer him as,"does have a stubborn cowboy outlook of a global economy. Take over everyone then start from scratch. Thankfully there are people in the world who do see a difference in global peace and global capital."Norman Mailer nailed the thought I already precieved on the head, the Bush administration has no clue as to what cultural values they are changing. A brighter outlook would be to view each culture librally(ugly word for Bushians, not meeting there concepts of capitalism) and unite through a global support system, allowing each society to choose what is best for their people's well being.
If America is a true Christian nation, a nation with the freedom of God and that of compassion, then our people need to practice less power and greed for commmon wealth and start practicing a smarter mythed of democracy. One that practices values of equality and well being for everyone poor and rich. Unlike, the capitalist race for the top of who can own the biggest and the most. One global economy would be great but it can't be forced by power and money. Being a Christian nation is not supposed to mean more money for ourselves but more for our country men.
Norman Mailer also brought to light that, America after 9/11, gained a false sense of patriotism. There was a sudden boom in patriotism after the terrioristic attack on the world trade centers .The sudden rise also indicated that most americans that did not care, all of the sudden have huge interest in striking back the terriorist for there trespasses. That false patriotism got Darth Bush relected for another four years of america looking like arrogate cowboys. Patriotism should be held in high esteem even in times of a poor economy and lack of proper leadership. If Americans want to become a leader in global economy then we need to start practicing in more active politics and start paying more attention to who we elect to run as the leaders of the free world. A lack of attenion to politics can lead to a loss of more freedoms (A.K.A. The patriot act). Thankfully there are people who stay devoted to the human rights we are all entitled. If not for your Norman Mailers, Al Gores, and good common citizens our nation could go tubbling down a dark path of global disastor. Don't be blinded by propaganda. Look into the leaders of our democracy and make sure they are doing there jobs. Common people still have the majority power over our country. Politicians must listen to the citizens or we can boot them to the curb. "All we have to loss is our chains"(Carl Marx). Be active in politics or you could get another Darth Bush in our near future, set to violate human rights for a profit. America is the greatest country on Earth, now its time to start acting like it.

E.M.P. " The Technology Control"
http://www.litmuse.net/prompt_technology
No need to fear technology. Billy Joels song,"Technology", was a threatning way to veiw the rapid pace and growth of technology. One main enemy can put all technology to an end, Electoromagnetic Pulse or E.M.P. for short. E.M.P. is Much like the shock wave of an atomic bomb but without all the death, fire and brimestone.
With the rapid growth of technology cutting man power, makes some people feel threatened or spooked. But, in actuality it is making life easier for people to cut the crap we don't like to do in life out. Even with A.I.(Artificial Intellegence) programs making computors human like, there is no suprise there, are'nt we all trying to creat another us, there is no need to the ever changing technological world. E.M.P. can put an instant halt to the evolution of technology. From computors to the programs that run subway, to the fuses in your house, all are affected by the shock waves, would render the world primal. In all seriousnous, people have become so adapted to technology, it would be more frightening to have no technology as opposed to feeling threatend by the growth.
If you ever fear technology just think of the comfort it has given you. Or, have comfort in knowing that people can end it whenever we choose. That is the balance in which people play in the world over all things.

Oppressing the rights!
http://www.litmuse.net/prompt_rights
oppressing the people! With today's growing society, more and more laws are being created to regulate the citizens. When does Majority rule reign over Human rights?
Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that all humans are entitled.
There are many political views on when and how these right are distibuted. Which is a form of oppression in its self.Take for example, the case in Miami, which was a wide spread view to abolish public discrimination based on sexual preference.
The majority of the people said,"that was rightous" but, the oppressed minority had to group up in communities to escape there oppresser's. Forced to hide in order to come out. At this point, people need to realize when they are just being plain assholes. I'm not gay but, I believe that whoever makes you happy at the end of the day, you should'nt have to hide your way of life just because the majority of people think of it wrong. In this case and every preference case, should be thrown out because the punishment is worse than the crime.(like a whole lot of other laws if you pay attention).
It is true on one hand, that it is a genetic error to be homosexual. The human race would end if we do not approcreate. But, as long as the majority of people are straight, then let the minority and the oppressed be as gay as they want to be. It will have some negative affects on society but hell, just about everything these day's does in some way or another.

You got Jacked!
http://litmuse.net/prompt_hijack:
When being hijacked the United States deals with terrorist about like salt on a slug. If put in a situation as an airline being hijacking, How would you deal with the problem? For Example, " A wonderful day for flying", the captain say's over the intercom. Smash!Bash!Screams!, and ten minutes later, The terrorist have you at gun point at the helm of a jet.
The terrorist yell," Tell your president we will crash the plane into another build unless they release Hobjobdobdiddlibob Muhammad from prison". As the panic sets in, you suddenly realize the situation is in your hands.
Here are somethings to consider, Throughout the ages of war and power, there has always been terrorist, Like being hijacked on a plane. Then why over time have people felt a need not deal with a terrorist? as opposed to trying something. The current policy for the United States even Say's "We do not negotiate with terrorist".If thrown into a situation I bet your now willing to try and strike a deal.
You have to play with terrorist like a chess match, make a sacrifice then capitalize. Capitalize! is'nt that the root of America? Maybe instead of saying we won't deal with terrorism( which will happen either way wheather you do anything or not) Why don't we try things from the diplomacy side of things.
To handle the situation at hand, instead craching into another building uselessly, Tell them we want the safety of the people and give them what they want but, with a little twist.( An espionage approach) Give them the prisoner back with a bomb straped to him, the ol' two negatives make a positive. Now you own the situation and demands. This crazy illusion of a plan would most certainly be better than doing nothing at all.

A Little About Me
My name is Michael Purvis, I'm a nursing major in persuits of many goals. My first thought about college was, "God I'm going to be here for a while". If I had to give advise to any of my other classmates I would advise them to persue what makes them happy and don't waste time chasing money, if your good at what you do, you'll make plenty of it. My experiences in life range from one end of the prespective to the other, but I have found that with modivation and a little education you can acheive any dream, regardless of how much cognitive thinking you where blessed with. I train and socialize dogs for the time being because animals are more pleasent and more fun. I battle hours between Work and school but but good ol' happiness and well being can't be replaced as my top priority.

What is Right? What is wrong?
http://litmuse.net/prompt_right_wrong:
What is right? Just because you see somthing as right, does'nt acually make true.
There are two main types of rightness or wrongness, do you view a topic somewhat wrong or do you view as absolutely wrong, a relitivist or a absolutist. Take marijaunna for instance, Many people see as an absolute drug only to wrought your brain over long term usage. Then there are people who see it as a life saver, a means to safely divert reality to somthing more pleasent and passive. There are many ups and downs to foriegn substances in the body. Do you immediately jump to conclusion without truely knowing the facts or do you make an assuption to what others's tell you. The best way to find out is through knowlegde. If you are curious as to where you stand look into the facts and make your own opinion.
In dealing with right or wrong, Take yourself out of the equation and view it as a whole, Meaning don't look at from your point of view but look at as a relitivist point of view.(Put yourself in others shoes) Your past can somtime misconstrew the true meaning of right and wrong.
For example, if a man/women is a cancer patient going through theropy, the doctor decides to precribe them a mild drug for nuesia and dizziness, even if they where against that particular drug in the past they now seek comfort from it, change the preception of right and worng. To truely determine what is right? or what is worng?, education and knowledge will lead you in the right path.

Precieving The World
http://www.litmuse.net/prompt_perception
Each person in this world precieves things differently. What one person may see as enlightenment, another will see it as a waste. "Humans are social animals", (Socrates) and by nature we want people to precieve things the way we see the world. That is where the politics and attitudes of people arise out of perseption. For example, There are many people in the world who have never seen a masterpeice be Van Gogh. The indepth details in his art and three dimisional drawings may only be viewed by the trained eye. If you took someone who has never viewed art before, they would not see the depth of the work but, they would only see a flat image on a page, never knowing the details of the art.
There are as many ways to precieve things as there are people, take politics for instance, People try to presaude others into voting for them so they can run a nation the way they believe it should be ran. The social world is politics, so in order to get anything done, one must presaude other's into believing what they believe in. Basically, we in a constant state of infinante perseptions. Our preseptions of the world can change in a second. Advise to those with absolute minds," you don't get very far in a social world without altering your perseoption to others". Meaning, if we can't see the other person's perspective then an idea goes to waste and we get nothing done. Everyone has their perseption of the world but in order to get things done we must be open minded to others, as well as the change in our own.
The images of truth are different in the eyes of each person. There can be no one absolute way of viewing anything. Take for example, a Three dimensional art image. In the eyes of someone who has been conditioned to see the depth of the art, can comprehend the image. They would view a man walking through trees as opposed to seeing a man walking down the trail.
Each different perpective is view can be seen as a diffent type of truth. No one person should take only there perspective to trive in a socity. It is key to view things librally. Ingnorance and misunderstandings could be seen more diplomatically, if people would not just take what they see as truth. All sides of truth must be coveed to obtain the structure of viewing the world. If everyone worked each perpective, a lot of the basic problems of the world could be solved.
